Built in 1588 by a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This is one of 3 Great Water Castles of Japan filled with waters of Seto Inland Sea filling the castles's ditch. At present, castle ruins are open for public as park. Tsukimi yagura (a tower for moon watching), Hiunkaku palace, Ushitorayagura corner tower and another National important cultural properties are situated on premises. A garden near Hiunkaku is also designated as a beauty spot. The place was also a location of "Siberian Express", "Dream Pitcher" and another movies.
