It is spoken that Shichi festival is carried out more than 500 years. In this festival we express our gratitude to farming, and pray for bumper crops, health and prosperity.

The festival is carried out around the old calendar's 10th month of thirty-sixth of the sexagenary cycle. On the second day arts and rowboat ride, and other events are announced, and this way we express our prays for long and abundant life.

At this day you can meet a lot of locals came back to celebrate the festival. Also, Iriomote Shichi festival has got "Important Intangible Cultural Property" status in Japan.
