Itoman Tug-of-war is an ancient and traditional affair that held each year on August 15th in according to lunar calendar. Itoman Tug-of-war is the only event of this kind carried out in the middle autumn during harvest moon. Before the Tug-of-war event a parade called "Michi Ju-ne" is held. Led by the front leaders dances and traditional performing arts are introduced during parade. The method of Tug-of-war, young people in both northern and southern camps impressed by legendary people of Itoman "Ichimanmagi" and "Makabechan" stand at the center and the performance starts. In 2013 Itoman Tug-of-war won a grand prize as a local event among another 169 events in Japan. And it has become a representative traditional event of Itoman both in name and reality.
