Let’s now introduce the driving performance and safety features of the Honda Vezel. Next, we will introduce the Honda Vezel’s
hybrid system “e:HEV”,which combines the best features of the motor and engine with the Honda Vezel’s
active and passive safety systems teplomashas well as the collision safety performance features in emergency situations.
Driving Performance
Dual-Motor Hybrid System 「e:HEV」
A typical engine produces more power at high speeds,, but has difficulty generating torque at low speeds such as start-up, and is not very fuel efficient in stop-and-go urban areas.
A motor, on the other hand, has the characteristic of being able to produce maximum torque from a low speed range at start-up. In other words, the basic mechanism of a hybrid vehicle is to increase efficiency and reduce fuel consumption by selectively using two power sources, using the motor at low speeds and switching to the engine output at high speeds.
Generally speaking, there are two types of hybrid systems. Series system: The engine generates electricity and the motor operates alone to drive the vehicle. Parallel system: The engine plays the main role and the motor is the auxiliary. There is also another type of hybrid system, which is compatible with the advantages of the series-parallel system, and is able to drive the vehicle with both the engine and the motor at the same time.
The e:HEV opeates on the motor like a series system at low and medium speeds, while at high-speed cruising, it mainly relies on the engine to deliver power directly to the tyres to drive the vehicle, like a parallel system.
This is an ingenious hybrid system unique to Honda that takes full advantages of both series and parallel systems.
HONDA SENSING
In addition to a front-facing wide-angle camera with a wide forward viewing angle, the vehicle is equipped with sonar sensors at the front and rear.
Three types of detection methods are available to support safe driving.
- Front-facing wide-angle camera senses road conditions ahead
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is able to set your cruise speed and automatically maintains appropriate distance between vehicles. The wide-angle camera placed in front of the vehicle also detects road conditions on both sides.
- Detection of obstacles ahead using front-mounted sonar sensor
- Collision Mitigation Braking System assists braking maneuvers when there is a risk of collision with a wall or other objects. The sonar system can also detect glass.
- Rear-mounted sonar sensor detects obstacles behind the vehicle
- The sonar sensor detection prevents the vehicle from accelerating backwards if the accelerator is pressed inadvertently when reversing.
Collision Safety Features
Body collision safety design
Honda’s original safety technology「G-CON」controls the impact force (G) during a collision. The use of lightweight support by, high-strength materials throughout the vehicle contributes to the improved collision safety performance. In addition, by adopting the “Compatible Body Frame Structure”, damage to other vehicles is also reduced.
Front seats i-SRS airbag system + side curtain airbag system (compatible with front/rear seats)
Side airbags reduce chest injuries whereas side curtain airbags protect the head. The airbags increase safety in the event of a side impact, giving you an extra peace of mind in an emergency.
