Yonabaru large tug of war event was started in Ryukyu kingdom Sho Ei period (1573～1588) as a Shinto ritual and pray for bumber years. It is a traditional event of advance blessing of crops provided by divided into western and eastern bindings of males and females, and soothsaying is conducted depending on victory or defeat. The length is 90 m in total and weight is 5 ton. arrangements of thick rope is like a procession around the city and it is believed to be weaving of Dragon God. When Kanachi rod is put in with thick rope and it hits the ground, tug of war starts. The process of pulling the rope to the West or East is attractive for visitors and warm hearts of participants.
If take participation in tug of war competition it is told that it brings sound health, benefit and prosperity of descendants, and a lot of people from the town out outside visit this place every year. In additiona to tug of war competition it is planned to conduct concerts, fireworks etc.
