"Tingara" means "Milky Way" in Okinawa dialect.
Yaeyama islands and Ishigaki island are situated at 24°north latitude and 84 of all 88 constellations can be seen. This is a place where the largest number of constellations can be seen in Japan.
"Southern Cross" constellation also appears on the southern sky from January to June.
Moreover, there are the star of the first magnitude "Canopus" that in according to a legend greats longevity to a person who saw it, Alpha and Beta Centauri as well as many other stars impossible to introduce shortly.
In full moon Milky Way can not be seen, but cruising on a water surface reflecting moonlight like a "moon river" (a path of moonlight) is perfect.
