Research Performance: “Shūshin Koi no Kaneiri”
How the dance works that inspired the Kumiodori “Shūshin Koi no Kaneiri” and the songs “Wakashu Tokunin Bushi” and “Inoha Bushi” were performed during the Ryukyu Kingdom era remains unclear.
Between the first performance in 1719 and the late 1800s, stage structures changed significantly. Furthermore, in the Meiji period, Ryukyuan performing arts shifted from being exclusive to the warrior class to performances for the general public, resulting in further transformation.
This special research performance reconstructs and presents the staging, costumes, and production based on historical documents, old drawings, and archival materials from the Ryukyu Kingdom.
We aim to shed light on the early form of Ryukyuan performing arts.
